German soccer giants Bayern Munich have entered into a content sharing arrangement with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
As part of the agreement the Bundesliga champions will provide exclusive interviews and video content to the makers of Total Soccer, a two-hour soccer programme aired every Monday by CCTV’s sports division.
Commenting in a statement released on the club’s website, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the partnership represents a “unique opportunity to transport our ideals and values into every region of the world’s biggest sport market”.
The new partnership comes as Bayern continue to focus on building their brand in the planet’s most populous nation, where they claim to have some 90 million fans.
Earlier this month Jörg Wacker, an executive board member at Bayern who oversees the club’s international growth strategy, revealed in an interview with Bild that the club is planning a summer tour to China this year.
According to Wacker, Bayern will play two friendlies, one each in Beijing and Shanghai, in late July, while the club is also planning to launch new digital offerings in China.
Bayern Munich remain top in Germany’s Bundesliga, eight points clear of second-placed Wolfsburg with 13 games to go.
