Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Atlanta Braves have confirmed that SunTrust Park will be renamed Truist Park as part of their stadium naming rights deal with the recently-formed Truist Financial Corporation.

Truist, which was previously known as the Branch Banking and Trust Company (BB&T), changed its name after completing the acquisition of Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks in December, inheriting the 25-year, US $10 million naming rights deal for the Atlanta ballpark that was activated with the venue’s opening in 2017.

The venue will be updated with the Truist logo and other marks in time for the opening day of the 2020 MLB season in March, while a full rebrand of the stadium will be complete in time for the start of the 2021 campaign.

Braves’ chief executive Derek Schiller said that he does not anticipate partnership with Truist to end early as a result of its acquisition of SunTrust.

“SunTrust has been a valued partner, and we look forward to beginning this next chapter with them as Truist,” he said. “We're confident that players and fans alike will continue to enjoy and love Truist Park as the home of their Atlanta Braves.”

Under the the partnership, Truist has agreed to refurbish one youth baseball field per year, with each to be named after Braves legend Hank Aaron.

Dontà Wilson, Truist’s chief digital and client experience officer, said: “This is an incredible opportunity to partner with a Braves legend and make a difference in the lives of youth by creating spaces where kids can learn about teamwork, build friendships, and make memories to last a lifetime.

“In working closely with the Braves, we look forward to creating meaningful change in the communities we serve – from cultivating connections in the Atlanta community to creating an engaging fan experience at Truist Park.”

To activate the rebrand, both the Braves and Truist are offering children aged 14 and under free admission to a Braves game during April. Truist Park's new brand identity will first be on show at the Braves’ annual Chop Fest Weekend on between 24th and 25th January.
