World Rugby has secured Japanese broadcast agreements with public service network NHK, commercial channel Nippon TV and the J Sports pay-TV service for the France 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Confirmed:
- J Sports will air all 48 Rugby World Cup matches and 18 exclusively throughout the tournament
- NHK will broadcast 15 matches and launch a dedicated France 2023 digital portal
- 19 games secured by Nippon TV, including a quarter final and the final
Context:
The three broadcasters shared the rights to the last edition of the Rugby World Cup in 2019 when Japan hosted the international rugby union tournament for the first time. The home event brought in a cumulative audience of 425 million for NHK, Nippon TV and J Sports.
