PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OFFICIAL SHORTLIST UNVEILED FOR SPORT INDUSTRY AWARDS 2013
The Sport Industry Group is delighted to announce the Official Shortlist for the Sport Industry Awards 2013, with Olympic sponsors leading the way in a record year for entries as British Airways and adidas claim seven and eight shortlistings respectively.
With entries up by more than 30% on last year’s previous record, winning a place on the prestigious shortlist has been harder than ever before, and an unprecedented quality of work has been the result. Following a rigorous steering process involving 45 key figures from across the industry and more than 50 hours of intensive judging – fully overseen by Deloitte, the Official Independent Scrutineer of the Sport Industry Awards, to ensure absolute transparency and impartiality – the list of nominees represents the best the industry had to offer in 2012.
Cycling in the UK has replicated its 2012 on-track success with Sky Ride, Team Sky, British Cycling, Sky’s sponsorship of Team GB, and the management of Victoria Pendleton and Mark Cavendish all shortlisted for a Sport Industry Award. Meanwhile, Channel 4’s acclaimed work with the Paralympic Games has seen it shortlisted four times.
While much of 2012 will be remembered for the magical moments supplied by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the UK industry can celebrate triumphs across the entire spectrum of the sporting world, with entries recognised in this year’s shortlist from football (men’s and women’s), rugby union, tennis, motorsport, basketball, cycling, swimming, table tennis, fitness training, golf, horse racing, hockey and rugby league.
Nick Keller, Chairman of the Sport Industry Group, commented: “2012 marked a remarkable year for sport in the UK, with London at the heart of it. But what made this past year so memorable is the work that was put in to ensure that success, not just on the track, field, or pool, but online, on TV, on billboards and in stadia. Being named on the Official Shortlist for the Sport Industry Awards is definitive proof that a team, brand or organisation's work has been amongst the very best in its field across an entire year.”
The Shortlist will now go forward for consideration by the main Judging Panel, who will decide the winners in each category. The results will be announced at the star-studded Sport Industry Awards ceremony on Wednesday, 2nd May 2013.
