Thorpe and Kwan to speak during Beyond Sport’s One Hour of Inspiration session

Ian Thorpe will speak alongside Michelle Kwan, Bob Beamon and John Amaechi on 25th July as part of the Beyond Sport Summit's One Hour of Inspiration session.

Sport for social change organisation Beyond Sport has announced that five-time Olympic Gold medallist Ian Thorpe and five-time ice skating world champion Michelle Kwan will speak during the final day of the Beyond Sport Summit on 25th July in London.

In confirming their involvement during the ‘One Hour of Inspiration’ session at the end of the day’s proceedings, Thorpe and Kwan join a host of other leading names from the worlds of sport, business and government speaking at the summit, including Olympic legends Michael Johnson, Bob Beamon and former NBA star John Amaechi.

The opening panel on the 25th sees Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore joined by former Prime Minister Tony Blair, 1995 Rugby World Cup winner Francois Pienaar and Lonnie Ali, the wife of Muhammad Ali and co-Founder of the Muhammad Ali Center.

The afternoon's panel will see Paddy Harverson, the official spokesman for the Prince of Wales and Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and former director of communications for Manchester United, speaking alongside celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and Nascar chief executive Brian France in an exploration of how to effectively change the habits and lifestyles of the mass market.

Further highlights of the three-day Beyond Sport Summit 2012, which takes place from 23rd to 25th July, include Beyond Rugby at Twickenham Stadium and Beyond Football at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 24th July, as well as a wide range of panels, workshops and meetings designed to push forward sport's role as a tool for social change.
