Mike Ashley puts Newcastle United back on the market
Mike Ashley has put Newcastle United back on the market, according to reports, instructing his representatives to begin negotiations with interested parties, including an American group.
Though many have speculated that Ashley will choose to maintain control until the club's expected promotion at the end of the season allows him to up his price, reports now suggest he is willing to sell to allow him to concentrate on his other business interests.
There is also a school of thought that maintains the club's position at the top of the league is a strong negotiating position for Ashley - especially given the risk of the club's second half of the season being less fruitful and seeing it slip down the table.
