Tottenham and Liverpool have big ambitions off the pitch
Tottenham and Liverpool are not only competing in the Premier League this season. Next weekend, motorsport teams financed and backed by the two English soccer clubs will go head to head for the 2009 Superleague Formula title at Jarama in Spain.
The 2009 Superleague Formula season has seen teams backed by soccer clubs from around the globe compete in six races around Europe - an amount set to be doubled in 2010. Liverpool have a healthy advantage at the top of the 2009 table, with Tottenham in second place.

"It's always exciting when you're up against another Premier League club and I think it’s going to be a classic; Liverpool vs Tottenham," said Adrian Valles, who drives for the Liverpool team. "But we know we have a good advantage which I hope we don't ruin.
"I understand that Craig is in a difficult position because he has to push to win the title whereas we could afford just to collect points if necessary. As I said though, we’ll still be pushing hard for the win."
Craig Dolby, the Tottenham driver who was applauded by the White Hart Lane crowd last weekend, added: "There's a rivalry between Tottenham and Liverpool anyway so there's a bit more because it's a Premier League club we're up against and means more to the fans. For me personally though I just want to win and that’s obviously the same in football, regardless of the opposition. It'll feel a bit more like a Tottenham vs Arsenal game. In my mind it's a big deal."
Meanwhile, Spurs have lodged a planning application with north London's Haringey Council for a project which the club believes will see it create 'the most atmospheric stadium in Europe'.

The new 56250-capacity ground, to be built adjacent to the team's current White Hart Lane ground and operational by 2012, is already a firm favourite to host games at the 2018 Fifa World Cup should England's bid to host the tournament prove successful.
"We have designed what will be a vibrant area 365 days a year and not a stadium with dead space surrounding it," said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. "Our desire from the outset has been to create a scheme of major benefit for local people and to deliver the most fan-friendly stadium in Europe.
"The inclusion of a new single-tier stand combined with a fantastic stadium design demonstrates our absolute commitment to create the most atmospheric stadium for our supporters. Every fan will have an exceptional view of the action and will find themselves closer to the pitch than at any other comparable stadium."
