New York City was handed a boost of nearly US$60 million as a result of the New York Yankees' World Series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Bloomberg.

The victory over the defending champions earned the famous franchise its 27th World Series title, and its first since 2000. In addition, it earned New York City a reported US$59.6 million in direct spending, according to the Economic Development Corporation.

The EDC had already claimed that every World Series game played at Yankee Stadium was worth US$15.5 million to the New York City economy. 'That includes money spent by visitors, players and media on hotels, retail, transportation and dining, assuming that about 34,000 people attend the game who don't live in the city,' noted Bloomberg.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, is thought to have received a US$25 million boost from the series.
