Manchester United will be on the beer with multi-million pound cash boost

Manchester United, the English Premier League champions, are reportedly looking for a new seven-figure beer sponsor to replace current partner Budweiser and provide a boost to the Old Trafford club's much-scrutinised balance sheet.

According to The Football Trade Directory, Manchester United have sent promotional packs to rival brewers in an attempt to attract a new backer. The club has long been known for its shrewd and lucrative commercial partnerships - including the current deal with Anheuser-Busch brand Budweiser. Budweiser signed a four-year deal to become Manchester United's official beer in 2002 and has since signed two two-year extensions.

Manchester United have an £80 million shirt sponsorship deal with Aon due to start next season, while a number of partnerships with the likes of Turkish Airlines and Globacom bring in more millions every year. However, Manchester United's owners, the Glazer family, have faced fierce media criticism in recent weeks for their handling of the club's debts.

On the pitch, United are currently battling with Arsenal and Chelsea as they seek to win an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title, have qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League and face Aston Villa in the Carling Cup final later this month.
