Liverpool and Tottenham set to face off in Spain
Motorsport teams backed by English soccer clubs Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will go head to head for the Superleague Formula title at the concluding race of the 2009 season of the innovative series.
Superleague Formula features motorsport teams backed by professional soccer clubs. Going into the final race of the six-race season - which has already announced that it will have an extra four races in 2010 - the championship statistically remains a four-horse race with Olympiacos and FC Basel 91 and 97 points adrift respectively. But with only a maximum 100 points still available, the reality is that Liverpool or Tottenham will be lifting the trophy.

Rafa Benitez, the Liverpool manager, said this week after meeting driver Adrian Valles: "I know the players were looking forward to meeting him as most have an interest in cars and have been following Liverpool's progress in Superleague Formula all season. On behalf of the entire club, I would like to pass on the best of luck to Adrian and the team."
Valles added: "I'm quite confident. We've got a healthy advantage at the top but that doesn't mean we can relax because it's a really tough championship to win."

Tottenham's driver, Craig Dolby, certainly believes that is the case. "You never say never and as there's still a realistic chance of the title then I won't give up," he said. "If it wasn't for the problems in Portugal I think we'd be within 10 points right now. It's going to be difficult, I'll admit that, but I can still see there's a chance there, especially as I think we'll be fast."
