Golden future for Mohamed Al-Fayed’s Premier League club Fulham
A five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, including a 3-1 victory over Liverpool, is not the only sign that the future is golden for English soccer club Fulham.
The club's owner, Mohamed Al-Fayed, has already been richly rewarded by the decision to sell gold bullion at his luxury department store Harrods, with hundreds of thousands of pounds worth being bought 'off the shelf' in less than a month.
Investment grade bars and coins, including British sovereigns, American Eagles and South African Krugerrands have been available at the store since mid-October.
Whether Al-Fayed will invest the profits in his Premier League club remains to be seen, but Fulham are certainly making strides off the pitch as well as on it. In October, the club appointed Fenway Sports Group, the sister-company of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, to market it in the USA. FSG will also be tasked with selling Fulham's shirt sponsorship from 2011 onwards.
The club is currently celebrating its 130th anniversary.
