Doug Barron becomes first man banned from golf for doping
04 November 2009 | By Adam Fraser
Doug Barron has become the first man to be banned from the PGA Tour for doping, after testing positive for a banned substance.
The American has been banned for one year after testing positive for an unnamed performance-enhancing drug.
"I would like to apologize for any negative perception of the Tour or its players resulting from my suspension,"he told the BBC. "I want my fellow Tour members and the fans to know that I did not intend to gain an unfair competitive advantage or enhance my performance while on Tour."
Golf bowed to calls from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to introduce a testing procedure last year.
