Carling hit out at Manchester United fans over crowd trouble
Carling, the sponsors of the League Cup, have released a statement condemning the actions of Manchester United fans at the club's League Cup win over Barnsley on Tuesday night.
A number of fans were arrested in what Barnsley referred to as a 'minority of Manchester United fans who caused substantial damage at Oakwell' during the game. Barnsley have sent photographs of the damage to Manchester United and are hopeful of receiving compensation from the Premier League club.
"Our sponsorships are intended to strengthen communities, by bringing people together for a sociable event," said the statement from Carling. "It is very disappointing that a small minority of so-called fans should spoil it for others."

United themselves have condemned the fans, branding them "thugs who spoil the reputation of the team and fellow supporters," and insisting they "have no place at Manchester United." Banning orders will be pursued on any fans identified to have been involved in the trouble.
