50 Most Marketable 2012 - Tom Brady
Tom Brady - American, 34, Football (18)
February’s Super Bowl XLVI may not have produced the desired outcome for Tom Brady – his New England Patriots went down 21-17 to the New York Giants – but a fifth appearance in American football’s showpiece game demonstrated that the veteran quarterback has still got what it takes.
Having been at the top of his sport for 12 broadly successful seasons, the 34-year-old remains a formidable force, adding to an impressive set of personal stats with each passing year and continuing to attract media attention, alongside his supermodel wife Gisele, away from the playing field.
A good portion of his limelight is set to be seized by a legion of young, up-and-coming quarterbacks as the likes of Tebow, Luck and Griffin III come to the fore, but a generation of NFL fans will forever view Brady, alongside the Manning brothers, as the benchmark to which those young pretenders must aspire.
Still a stalwart endorser, a third of the Californian’s US$30 million annual income is derived from endorsements with brands such as Stetson, Movado Watches, Under Armour, Glaceau Smart Water and Ugg, to name but a few.
Indeed, as an established name with cross-demographic appeal, he enters the twilight of his playing career as one of the most marketable personalities in America’s most lucrative sport and therefore without doubt the biggest asset to his management team at Yee & Dubin Sports.
