Xbox renews support of Seattle Sounders
Major League Soccer (MLS) side the Seattle Sounders have announced that Microsoft product Xbox will continue as a front of shirt sponsor until at least 2015.
Xbox’s current deal with the Sounders, which was agreed in 2009, the team’s inaugural MLS season, is believed to be worth US$20 million in total, although it is due to expire at the end of this season. The new deal will see the Microsoft product branding continue on the player’s shirts until at least 2015. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is a shareholder in the Sounders.
It has not been announced yet whether the Sounders’ shirts will continue to feature ‘Xbox’ as it has for the last three seasons or if Microsoft will change the wording in order to promote the Xbox One, which is being launched on 22nd November.
“We’re very happy,” said Adrian Hanauer, the general manager and part-owner of the Sounders. “It’s been a fantastic partnership. We’re excited to extend for a year and hopefully this leads to something even longer term.”
