Werder Bremen to drive on with Volkswagen

German Bundesliga side SV Werder Bremen have announced an extension to their sponsorship deal with Volkswagen (VW) until the end of the 2017/18 soccer season.

Under the agreement, VW will continue as a main sponsor of the club, behind only the club's primary and shirt sponsor Wiesenhof. The automotive company will provide boardroom members, management and playing staff with a fleet of vehicles for use throughout the season. The Volkswagen VIP Club, a corporate zone at Werder's Weserstadion, will retain its title sponsor.

According to, the partnership is worth €1.7 million a year to the club.

The deal comes despite the current controversy surrounding the carmaker, which was found to have fabricated claims about the emissions from its vehicles.
