The Volvo Ocean Race has secured a streaming deal with Twitter for the remainder of its 2017/18 edition.
The agreement will see the final eight in-port stages of the round-the-world yacht race shown live around the world on the social media platform, starting with this weekend’s leg in Hong Kong.
The Volvo Ocean Race’s official Twitter account will also broadcast premium video content from the seven participating boats, and additional coverage will include analysis and best-of highlights.
Jordi Neves, chief digital officer for Volvo Ocean Race, said: “Twitter is a natural home for the Volvo Ocean Race’s live action and ever-changing story, and we’re excited to partner and work closely with the platform to give our fans a more connected experience than ever before in 2017/18.”
Simone Tomassetti, head of sports partnerships in Southern Europe for Twitter, added: “Twitter is what's happening. Now all the Volvo Ocean Race fans will be able to see and experience the best live and on-demand video from the race right in their timelines.”
The 2017/18 Volvo Ocean Race heads to Hong Kong on 27th and 28th January, and will wrap up in The Hague in the Netherlands on 30th June.
