Visit Seattle, the tourist board for Washington's largest city, has joined up with the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2015/16, as an official partner and a first-time entrant into the race.
Seattle had previously been announced as a stop on the ocean race route for the first time, and Visit Seattle has now announced it will enter a yacht into the competition.
The Visit Seattle yacht will enter the race when it kicks off in London at the end of the month, and will be used to promote Seattle as a tourism and business destination at the various port stops along the 40,000 mile journey, including Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Sydney and New York.
The Visit Seattle team will be skippered by British Skipper Huw Fernie, 31, from Cornwall.
“The race gives us a great opportunity to take the iconic image of our skyline across the globe and helps to position our city as an exciting, international destination,” said Tom Norwalk, president and chief executive of Visit Seattle.
