Top-flight English soccer side Southampton have announced that Virgin Media will their new sleeve sponsor.
The telecommunications group is already the Premier League team’s main and front-of-shirt sponsor, and has upgraded its commitment for the 2017/18 season as sleeve inventory becomes available for the first time. The deal expands a partnership which first began in 2016.
“We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Virgin Media over the past 12 months and we are delighted that they have opted to become our new shirt sleeve sponsors,” said David Thomas, Southampton’s commercial director. “This agreement is testament to the partnership that has been forged by the two organisations, and we look forward to continuing our work together this season."
Lloyd Page, director of brand for Virgin Media, added: “Our people take great pride in seeing the Virgin Media brand on the Southampton FC shirt, so we are thrilled to further demonstrate our support of this fantastic football club in this way.
“As a key strategic partner, we look forward to the new season together, and being at the heart of the drama and passion that surrounds our national game.”
Southampton finished eighth in the Premier League in 2016/17, and recently appointed Mauricio Pellegrino as their new manager following the dismissal of Claude Puel. The Argentinian will take charge of his first competitive game at home to Swansea City on 12th August.
