A deal has been reached for the Vietnamese city of Da Nang to enter the 2015/16 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
Race organisers have announced that the city will host the fleet of 12 identical 70-foot ocean racing yachts for a stopover during the tenth edition of the biennial event, as well as entering a team supported by local businesses and government.
Full details of the agreement will be made public at a contract signing ceremony in Vietnam next week.
Da Nang’s entry will mark the first time that Vietnam has entered the Clipper Race, which offers amateur sailors the chance to train and race alongside professional skippers.
Da Nang is a former French colonial port located on the central coast of Vietnam. It joins the likes of China’s Qingdao, the Northern Irish city of Derry-Londonderry, and Great Britain as destinations entering a team into the 2015/16 Clipper Race.
