Formula E team Venturi have announced a one-year partnership with HWA ahead of the opening race of the all-electric racing series’ fourth season in Hong Kong this weekend.
The motorsport technology company, which is best known for its work with Mercedes in the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) series, will provide the Monaco-based team with technical support for the duration of the 2017/18 campaign.
As well as running Mercedes’ DTM entry, HWA has also developed, manufactured and serviced racing engines for the Formula 3 European Championship and the British Formula 3 series since 2003. The decision to collaborate with Venturi comes ahead of Mercedes’ switch from the DTM series to Formula E starting with the 2019/20 season.
Gildo Pallanca Pastor, president of the Venturi Formula E team, which he co-founded with American actor Leonardo DiCaprio, said: “My teams in Monaco, stronger than ever, are working hand in hand with HWA.”
Speaking to UK magazine Autosport, Edoardo Mortara, a driver for Venturi in 2017/18, added: “HWA is quite a big company, with a lot of very good engineers and a lot of experience. To have their help is something very good. I can see that in Formula E the level is quite high, so the more help you can get the better it is.”
