Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has been named as a brand ambassador for Japanese entertainment company Konami.
Under the terms of the agreement, the athletics star will feature in the 2018 edition of the brand’s Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series exclusively to customers who pre-order the game.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist has made no secret in the past of his support for English club Manchester United, along with his desire to play soccer professionally.
“I love football and have played PES for as long as I can remember,” said Bolt. “It's the best football game there is and it's a great honour to be a part of it and its success. Having my face and movements scanned for use in the game was a fascinating process and I hope those who pre-order the game make full use of my pace and skill.”
Jonas Lygaard, senior director of brand and business development at Konami, added: “We are delighted that a legendary athlete and committed football fan such as Usain Bolt has agreed to become an ambassador for the PES series, exclusively.
“Usain’s enthusiasm and willingness to help with his inclusion in the game have been fantastic, and we look forward to those pre-ordering the game unleashing his pace on unsuspecting defences when PES 2018 is released.”
Usain Bolt is due to retire from athletics this summer, and will run his final race at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London in August.
