US-based broadcaster Univision Deportes has agreed a three-year sublicensing deal with Fox Deportes to secure Spanish-language rights to Germany’s Bundesliga.
The agreement will allow the station to carry three live games each week from German soccer’s top flight across its Univision Deportes Network and UniMás channels. It will also show a weekly preview show, along with a complete recap of the weekend’s matches that will air on Monday evenings.
Under the terms of the deal, Fox Deportes will maintain Spanish-language rights for all other Bundesliga matches included in its rights package and for the German Super Cup.
“Univision Deportes’ promise has always been to bring our fanáticos the best and greatest soccer leagues across the world,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president of Univision Deportes. “The acquisition of this package of Bundesliga rights from Fox Deportes is a key addition to our growing European soccer line-up.
“The level of play from this league is spectacular, and having games from teams like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in our portfolio is the type of programming our viewers expect to see from Univision Deportes.”
“We’re excited that the arrangement between Fox and Univision Deportes will help expand the Bundesliga footprint,” added Jörg Daubitzer, the outgoing chief executive of Bundesliga International. “Through their agreement, we are able to showcase and elevate our team roster to the unique and passionate audience Univision Deportes reaches.”
