Top-tier Brazilian soccer side Sport Recife have announced a partnership with Under Armour.
Under the terms of the deal, the US sports apparel brand will supply kit to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A outfit until 2023.
In addition, Under Armour will provide training and travel wear for Sport Recife players, as well as for the club’s grassroots teams.
Brazilian news outlet Globoesporte.com reports that the manufacturer will pay BRL12 million (US$3.7 million) for each year of the new agreement.
Under Armour also has sponsorship deals with Brazilian top-tier teams São Paulo and Fluminense.
The company replaces German sportswear brand Adidas as Sport Recife’s main supplier, which first partnered with the team in 2014.
Thaiany Assad, marketing director at Under Armour, said: "Because of its regional and national grandeur, Sport Recife is the ideal partner for Under Armour's expansion plans in the northeast region.”
"Under Armour will be able to explore a rapidly expanding market, such as the northeast, and know the strength of the Sport Recife crowd," added Arnaldo Barros, president of Sport Recife.
Sport Recife finished an underwhelming 15th in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2017. They beat Afogados 2-0 at home on 20th January in the first round of the 2018 local Pernambuco state championship, the Campeonato Pernambucano. They take on Clube Náutico Capibaribe away on Thursday.
