Middleweight boxing world champion Felix Sturm has signed an agreement that will see sports marketing company UFA Sports handle all his marketing activities for a minimum of four years.
UFA will handle television rights, sponsorship, organisation of fights and Sturm's endorsement rights under the terms of the lucrative contract. Sturm ended his association with Universum Box Promotion last year. In signing with UFA Sports, the WBA world champion has gained a partner with extensive experience in boxing: the current managing directors of UFA Sports successfully marketed the Klitschko brothers for many years.
The agreement with UFA Sports provides for Felix Sturm to box at least ten fights over the next four years. "I want to fight against all the big names in middleweight boxing," said the 30-year-old Sturm on signing his contract. The financial value of the deal is undisclosed, though it is likely to see AFA working on a commission structure, and will depend greatly on whether Sturm completes the ten fights and on his performances, but could exceed US$40 million.
UFA Sports managing director Philip Cordes said: "We are really looking forward to working with Felix and his team. Felix Sturm is an exceptional athlete, and with his extraordinary fight record he is definitely the most promising boxer in his weight class. His athletic achievements are impressive indeed, plus he is a charismatic personality outside the ring. We therefore see immense potential both for athletic marketing activities and with regard to his popularity over the next four years."
