UCLA renews sponsorship with Adidas
UCLA has renewed its deal with Adidas as the school's official supplier of athletic apparel for another six years. The old deal was set to expire in June 2011.
Adidas will provide equipment and apparel to UCLA's 21 intercollegiate teams, and other campus units such as the UCLA Spirit Squad.
It is reported that the deal could be close to Adidas' top college partnership, with the University of Michigan, which is valued at US$7.5 million annually. The current UCLA-Adidas deal brings in US$4.57 million annually. If the new deal is close to the Michigan deal, it would put UCLA in the top three in its conference, the Pac-10.
"This announcement is the culmination of many months of internal discussions, planning and analysis," said UCLA Athletic Director Pete Dalis. "We invited proposals from all qualified and interested parties. In the end, adidas' response and ancillary marketing and promotional support best met the needs of the University."
UCLA is the only school in the Pac-10 that isn't sponsored by Nike.
