TVNZ retains Formula E coverage

New Zealand public-service broadcaster TVNZ has extended its rights deal with Formula E for a further year.

The network will provide free-to-air coverage of the 2017/18 edition of the global all-electric racing series on its TVNZ 1 and TVNZ Duke television channels, as well as on its TVNZ OnDemand service, which will also host additional highlights and content.

Ali Russell, Formula E’s director of media and business development, said: “Formula E is a truly international and accessible championship, reaching fans on a global scale - including the most ardent followers in New Zealand. We’re delighted to renew our partnership with TVNZ. We look forward to continue bringing fans the excitement and exhilaration of electric street racing for this coming season.”

Cate Slater, TVNZ’s director of content, added: “We know that New Zealanders are passionate about live sport and we’re excited to bring racing fans the Formula E championship again this year - fully free-to-air. Formula E is fast becoming the biggest motorsport championship in the world. With New Zealand driver Mitch Evans behind the wheel, viewers will have more reason than ever to get behind this future-focused sport.”

The 2017/18 Formula E season gets underway on 2nd December with the Hong Kong ePrix at the Hong Kong Central Harbourfront Circuit.
