Brazilian television network Rede Record de Televisão, also known as TV Record, has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights across all platforms for the 2019 Pan American Games.
The agreement with the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) was settled after an assessment by the organisation of the network’s coverage of this year’s event in Guadalajara, Mexico.
While financial details were not disclosed, in a statement PASO president Mario Vazquez Rana said the deal surpasses the US$30 million paid by TV Record for the Toronto 2015 rights.
A host for the 18th Games is yet to be decided, with Lima, Bogota, Santiago and a yet-to-be-determined US city expected to bid to follow Toronto in 2015.
Commenting at the announcement, Vazquez Rana said: “Today we stand committed to the Pan American Games in 2019 with Rede Record without knowing the host city. The station is providing excellent coverage in Guadalajara. I am absolutely certain that 2019 will be equal.”
The 2019 rights complement TV Record’s Olympic coverage, which includes next year’s Games in London and the following edition in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, as well as the 2014 Winter Games in the Russian city of Sochi.
