German soccer club MSV Duisburg have renewed their sponsorship deal with Stadtwerke Duisburg.
The local energy services company will be MSV Duisburg's shirt sponsor until the end of the 2015/16 season, providing the financially troubled club can secure a licence from the German Football Association (DFB) to play in the 3. Liga in the 2013/14 season. The deal also includes a clause allowing either party to terminate it at the end of the season.
The team finished in a comfortable 11th place in last year's 2. Bundesliga table, but were denied a licence to play in Germany's second tier in 2013/14.

Stadtwerke Duisburg has been the main sponsor of MSV Duisburg since the 2009/10 season. According to Sponsors.de, the previous deal between the two was worth an annual €1.4 million (US$1.8 million), with a considerable drop likely this time around.
Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 have also loaned MSV Duisburg €250,000 to help with their pursuit of a licence.
