Japanese bathroom fixtures supplier Toto has been announced as a local sponsor of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, World Rugby’s quadrennial international men’s rugby union championship.
Under the terms of the agreement, Toto will have a strong brand presence at all 12 host venues during the tournament, which will take place in Japan between 20th September and 2nd November 2019. The company will also play its full part in the promotion of Asia’s first Rugby World Cup by connecting Japanese rugby union fans with their global counterparts through a series of activations.
“We are delighted to be welcoming Toto to the Rugby World Cup commercial programme for the first time as an official sponsor of Rugby World Cup 2019,” said Bill Beaumont, chairman of World Rugby. “They are a leading global brand and are excited about supporting the tournament in their home nation.”
Madoka Kitamura, president of Toto, added: “We are honoured to participate as an official sponsor of Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan. In line with our corporate identity to create an enriched and more comfortable lifestyle and culture, we are looking forward to contributing to the success of the tournament.”
Earlier this week Japan 2019 organisers were handed a public warning from Alan Gilpin, Rugby World Cup tournament director, about their progress two years ahead of the event. Gilpin said that the organisers needed “to accelerate” plans for the provision of training venues for the 20 teams but he did state World Rugby’s belief that the competition will be a “special and ground-breaking event.”
