CBC Sports has signed a one-year agreement with Canadian rugby league outfit the Toronto Wolfpack.
Canada’s state broadcaster will show the remainder of the Ontario-based team’s 2017 League 1 season live on its digital platforms cbcsports.ca and its CBC Sports app. Despite playing their home matches in their native Canada, the Wolfpack began competing in English rugby league's third tier from this year.
The first game to come under the agreement will be Toronto’s visit to the Keighley Cougars on 26th March.
“We are excited to have Canada’s national public broadcaster aboard for our inaugural season,” said Eric Perez, chief executive of the Toronto Wolfpack. “The future of television includes online content and CBC Sports has embraced this by providing an excellent platform for Canadians coast to coast to enjoy programming. We are proud to partner with CBC Sports, where fans can expect some spine tingling action in 2017.”
The Toronto Wolfpack have made an impressive start to their debut season and after two games occupy top spot in League 1. They beat bottom side the London Skolars 76-0 in their last match.
