Chinese automobile manufacturer the GAC Group has been unveiled as the title sponsor of two major events on the international table tennis calendar.

GAC Group will become the main sponsor at the 2011 World Championships, which will be held in Rotterdam between 8th and 15th May, and the 2013 World Team Cup which will take place in Guanghzhou, China – where the company is based.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and its marketing partner TMS International negotiated the deal with the GAC Group, who are no strangers to elite table tennis sponsorship. The car firm was a top tier sponsor of the sport during the 2010 Asian Games, which also took place in Guanghzou.

ITTF president Adham Sharara said of the deal: "The ITTF is extremely pleased that the GAC Group of Guangzhou has decided to become an ITTF partner and make its entry as the title sponsor of the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships in Rotterdam. The new partnership solidifies even more the excellent ties and relationship that the ITTF has with Guangzhou."

GAC Group chairman Zhang Fangyou stated: "We are exceptionally happy to be sponsoring the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships and the 2013 World Team Cup, two important events. We like and see the benefits of being involved with sport; in particular table tennis, as it plays a very important social role within international society."

The 2009 World Championships were held in Yokohama with Wang Hao winning the men’s singles, and Zhang Yining victorious in the women’s singles.
