Tokyo 2020 continues sponsorship drive
Tokyo’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been further boosted with the announcement that ALSOK, one of Japan’s largest security services groups, has come on board as the eighth partner of the bid.
ALSOK’s ties to the sporting world include sponsorships of Japanese Olympians such as wrestlers Saori Yoshida and Kaori Icho, and judoka Riki Nakaya.
Tsunekazu Takeda, an IOC member and president of both the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Tokyo 2020, said: “I am pleased to introduce ALSOK, Japan’s leading security company, for agreeing to help promote Tokyo 2020’s campaign. ALSOK’s dedication to sport is a testament of their long and rich history in supporting athletes and also the common attribute among all our bid partners.”
The Tokyo bid team has managed to attract strong support from the private sector, with a group of eminent Japanese companies having signed up for the city’s second bid in succession.
Alongside ALSOK, Asics, Mizuno Corporation, Descente, JTB, All Nippon Airways, Kintentsu International and Japan Airlines are all contributing towards the US$77.8 million the Tokyo team has earmarked for the candidate phase.
All eight bid partners will play an active role in Tokyo’s bid over the next ten months as the Japanese capital attempts to beat off competition from Madrid and Istanbul. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide on the fate of the three applicants in Buenos Aires in September next year.
