The University of Maryland Athletics Department has extended its sponsorship and supply deal with local sportswear manufacturer Under Armour for another ten years.
Baltimore-based Under Armour first signed a partnership with the university in 2008. According to the Baltimore Business Journal, that five-year deal was worth US$1.9 million in products every year, as well as a US$1.48 million annual cash payment.
Details of the new ten-year deal have not yet been revealed, but the university will continue to deck all its teams, coaches and staff out in Under Armour clothing.
The University of Maryland fields teams in 17 men's and women's sports. The Terrapins, or 'Terps', as the department's teams have been nicknamed since athletic director H.C. 'Curly' Byrd gave them the name in 1932, run a famously strong lacrosse programme.
