Telemundo Deportes has secured the Spanish-language US broadcast rights to the first leg of the 2018 Fifa World Cup play-off tie between Honduras and Australia.
The NBCUniversal-owned broadcaster will simulcast the match on its Telemundo and NBC Universo channels, as well as streaming the game live via the Telemundo Deportes En Vivo app and on TelemundoDeportes.com.
Telemundo Deportes holds Spanish-language broadcasting rights to the Fifa World Cup through to 2026 and the Summer Olympic Games through to 2032.
"As the Spanish-language home of the 2018 Fifa World Cup, it is an honour to continue following and delivering to our audience the story of the Honduran national team as they confront the next big challenge towards qualification for the 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia," said Eli Velazquez, executive vice president of programming, production and content at Telemundo Deportes.
"Honduras' ability to overcome real obstacles to this point has impressed many in the Concacaf [Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football] region and it will be interesting to see if they can continue to surprise the world in this next test."
Honduras beat Mexico 3-2 in October to qualify for the play-off round, and host Australia on 10th November at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano. The winner of the two-legged tie will progress to next year’s Fifa World Cup in Russia.
