Sun finally shines on beleaguered Bremen
Bundesliga soccer club Werder Bremen have agreed a sponsorship deal with energy company SiG Solar.
With photo-voltaic panels set to be incorporated into the upgrade programme at the German side's home Weser Stadion, the Brinkum-based distibutors will join Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, Vilsa Brunnen and Pohl Boskamp as a fourth-tier "Partner-Sponsor" of the club from the start of the 2011/12 season. Brokered by Infront Sports and Media, the deal includes an advertising presence for both Sig Solar and Chinese manufacturing partner Sun Earth Solar Power on static and rotating advertising boards, cam carpets and in the stands at the ground. Both companies will also be featured in official Werder Bremen publications and on the club's website.
SiG Solar managing director Jan-Christian Schröder said: "Regional roots and a pan-European focus – this is what SiG Solar and SV Werder Bremen have in common and the reason why we feel in the right place in the Weser Stadium. In addition, by integrating photovoltaic systems in the reconstruction of the Weser Stadium, the club has made a clear statement of principle on sustainable energy and environmental responsibility and offers us an ideal environment to present our photovoltaic and electromobility products."
Klaus Filbry, the Werder Bremen managing director, added: "SiG Solar as a leading innovator in sustainable energy is a very interesting company from our region. We would be happy if this partnership becomes a long-term collaboration. Having a sponsor from this industry sector, we fill an additional category in our sponsorship portfolio very well."
Werder Bremen have endured a disappointing year in the Bundesliga, sitting 11th in the table with four games of the 2010/11 season remaining.
