Belgian top-flight soccer side Standard Liège have named New Balance as their official kit supplier for three years.
The American sportswear brand replaces Italian company Kappa and, starting from the 2017/18 season, will provide the First Division A side with playing kit, training clothing and sports equipment.
Standard Liège will reveal their New Balance-designed kits for the forthcoming season on 29th June.
“New Balance and Standard de Liège were predestined to collaborate together,” said Bruno Venanzi, president of Standard Liege. “The American brand is breathing fresh air in the world of football equipment manufacturers and has succeeded in only a few seasons to become the partner of historical clubs of character such as LOSC Lille, Liverpool, FC Porto, Celtic, Seville and Athletic Biblao.
“Our club is pleased to be part of this dynamic and hopes to build with New Balance a solid foundation for future successes.”
Richard Wright, general manager of New Balance Football, added: “As a sports brand, we are also delighted with this partnership and look forward to seeing the new jerseys for fans. We are convinced that this collaboration is the beginning of an exciting adventure that will lead us all to success.”
Jacques Royer, owner of Groupe Royer, the Belgian distributor of New Balance, said: “The Royer Group is obviously pleased with the collaboration between New Balance and Standard de Liège.
“It is our first partnership in the Benelux and we are delighted to choose this prestigious club with a history so rich in Belgium. We hope to be able to write together a new chapter in the great football history of this great club.”
Standard Liège have won the Belgian First Division A on ten occasions in their history, but could only muster up a ninth-place finish in the 2016/17 campaign.
