Sport1 has acquired the German broadcasting rights for the Fifa Confederations Cup and Uefa U21 European Championship national team soccer tournaments.
The free-to-air channel will show three live games from the Confederations Cup, which bring together the soccer’s six continental champions, the world champions and host nation Russia, and will serve as a dry run for next year’s Fifa World Cup. It will also air both the group and knock-out stages of the European Championship, which will be contested in Poland by the continent’s 12 leading junior national teams.
In addition, Sport1 will provide daily highlights from both tournaments through its mobile app.
"On Sport1, the fans do not fall into the football summer hole: with the Fifa Confederations Cup 2017 and the Uefa U21 European Championship 2017, we present the two most important international football tournaments taking place," said Olaf Schroder, chief executive of Sport1.
The Fifa Confederations Cup will take place from 17th June to 2nd July. The U21 European Championship will begin on 16th June, with the final to be played on 30th June.
