Sport1 has acquired the rights to broadcast the 2017 IHF World Women's Handball Championship in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The deal, negotiated by Lagardère Sports, will see Sport1 broadcast the tournament, which will be hosted by Germany, live on free-TV and on its digital platforms.
The German channel will show all games featuring the German national team, as well as daily highlights of the games on free-to-air TV, and up to eight additional games on Sport1 and livestreaming platforms.
The broadcaster will also cover the event with videos, interviews and news coverage across its website, Sport1 mobile apps, and social media channels, with the semi-finals and final to be shown via YouTube and Facebook Live.
"The world cup is the handball event of the year in Germany and we will be hosting it on free-TV and, as usual, on our subscription platforms,” said Olaf Schröder, chief executive of Sport1.
"We are pleased to have found in Sport1 a strong and long-term partner for broadcasts on free-TV and livestream, which also provides comprehensive multimedia support for the tournament,” said Nikolaus von Doetinchem, senior vice president of Lagardère Sports.
The 2017 IHF World Women's Handball Championship will open with the hosts taking on Cameroon on 1st December, with the final due to take place on 17th December.
