Sony will sponsor its first major Middle East football tournament in January, when the company will be the official partner of the Arabian Gulf Cup of Nations.

The tournament, the 19th edition of the competition, will take place in Oman. Sony's involvement represents an extension of their eight-year partnership with Fifa, which runs from 2007 to 2014 and covers both the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cups.

Managing director of Sony Gulf, Osamu Miura said: "I can’t think of a better way for Sony to enter the hearts and minds of the people and celebrate the game with them than to partner with the best of the Middle East football action through the Arabian Gulf Cup of Nations."

He added, "Sony isn't just committed to the promotion of football at the global level. We are very keen on supporting it at the regional level."
