Michael Phelps has agreed a personal endorsement deal with headphone brand Sol Republic.

The American swimmer, who retired after London 2012 with more medals that anyone in Olympic history, will help the company launch its new eBay store, where it  will sell its full product range including the stars-and-stripes patterned headphones he wore at the Aquatics Centre in Stratford. The launch of the site is to be accompanied by the sale of 21 autographed pairs of headphones worn by the 27-year-old, with proceeds going to the Michael Phelps Foundation.

Phelps said: "Music has always been a big part of my life - it helps me focus and inspires me for every race. I'm a big fan of Sol Republic headphones' sound and I like the colors and how you can change them up. I'm excited to partner with Sol Republic to offer the headphones I wore before every race exclusively on eBay to benefit my Foundation, which helps me to support the next generation of swimmers."

Sol Republic chief executive Kevin Lee added: "We believe music is power. It's emotion. And that if it sounds better it feels better. For some it's celebration, for others, especially athletes, it's inspiration to train harder and win harder. Few know this as well as Michael. We are excited about what he has accomplished and thrilled to know that when it came to his music, Sol Republic headphones played a part."

Michael Phelps won four gold and two silver medals at London 2012 to take his overall tally to 18 gold medals out of a total of 22.
