Sky New Zealand wins exclusive America’s Cup rights

Sky New Zealand has acquired the exclusive rights to show every race of the 35th America's Cup, starting with the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Oman event on 27th and 28th February.

Having been a finalist in five of the last six America's Cups, including as winners in 2000 and 2003, Emirates Team New Zealand is presently leading the standings in the current World Series qualification event for next year's final showdown against Oracle Team USA in Bermuda.

Sky New Zealand will exclusively show every event remaining in the World Series this year - in New York, Chicago, Portsmouth and Toulon - before moving to Bermuda in 2017 for the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Qualifiers, Challenger Playoffs and the final America's Cup Match.

"The last America’s Cup had the entire country watching as Emirates Team New Zealand came within a race of bringing the Cup back to New Zealand," said Richard Last, director of sport for Sky New Zealand.

“We are proud to be the exclusive broadcast partner for this edition of the America’s Cup, as we follow Emirates Team New Zealand through the qualifying events towards the finals in Bermuda in June 2017.”

Elsewhere in the America's Cup, sailing equipment manufacturer Sperry has been announced as the official footwear supplier to Softbank Team Japan, the first Japanese challenger for the Auld Mug since 2000.

Sperry will create custom footwear for Softbank athletes, and also make an exclusive America's Cup-themed collection available for consumer purchase.
