UK pay-TV broadcaster Sky has launched a new Box Office streaming service in collaboration with technology provider NeuLion.
The new platform will make pay-per-view (PPV) events available for purchase to non-Sky customers in the UK through Now TV boxes and PC, mobile and tablet devices.
British boxer Anthony Joshua’s upcoming WBA and IBF world heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev - which was this week confirmed for 28th October at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium - will be the first show on the new platform. The fight will be available for UK£19.95 (US$25.99).
In an interview with the BBC, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that the Briton’s 29th April world heavyweight bout with Wladimir Klitschko at London’s Wembley Stadium broke UK PPV records. Hearn said that the fight was purchased over 1.5 million times in the UK alone, which was roughly 1.2 million higher than Joshua's last three Sky Sports Box Office fights.
