Setanta Sports Eurasia has signed a three-year deal with sports marketing agency MP & Silva for the exclusive right to broadcast action from Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1 in the Eurasian region.

The territories covered by the deal, which commences at the beginning of the 2012/2013 season, are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Action from the two leagues will complement Setanta Sports Eurasia’s other sport programming, which includes the England’s Premier League and FA Cup, Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga and North America’s Major League Soccer (MLS) and National Hockey League (NHL).

Setanta, which launched in January 2012, is now the first and only channel across the region to broadcast Europe’s ‘big five’ soccer leagues.

Dwyer McCaughley, chief executive of Setanta Sports, said: “We are delighted to have signed an exclusive agreement with MP & Silva to secure the rights to broadcast Serie A and Ligue 1 in Eurasia. We are constantly striving to provide the best sporting content possible for our viewers and believe that these new acquisitions, coupled with our existing content such as the Premier League, FA Cup and La Liga, makes us the most compelling sporting channel in the region.”

“The channel has proven immensely popular with viewers in the region already and we expect this to increase with the new content. The channel is gaining rapid traction with distribution platforms such as cable, DTH, IPTV and DTT across the region.”
