Global sports agency IMG is to launch an over-the-top (OTT) subscription-only platform in order to provide live coverage of every game from Serie A, Italian soccer’s top tier, to viewers in Latin America and Brazil.
The service, to be known as Serie A Pass, will be made available to fans in 21 countries in the region from the start of the domestic season, which begins on 18th August with Chievo facing reigning champions Juventus.
As well as live match streaming, the product will include full match replays, original content and archive programming, with the lure of watching Cristiano Ronaldo likely to attract a large audience.
IMG Media is the league’s primary international rights holder for the next three years. In the past, Fox Sports has broadcast the top-tier coverage in South America, but the network has not bid for the package on this occasion.
Serie A Pass will be accessible on desktop, tablet and mobile devices, with Chromecast and Apple airplay options enabled. IMG has priced the service at US$8.99 per month or a US$59.99 annual fee.
Although Ronaldo is viewed as a major attraction, the league also features a number of top Latin American players, including Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi, who represents Argentina.
