San Jose Sharks bag Safeway renewal

The National Hockey League’s (NHL) San Jose Sharks have extended and expanded their partnership with Safeway.

The agreement will see the company become the California-based ice hockey franchise’s official grocery partner in a sponsorship package which includes signage at the SAP Center and additional opportunities for in-arena giveaways.

Safeway will also launch the ‘Score and Win’ promotion, which could see one fan win US$1 million if a Sharks player scores four goals in one game between October and January.

“The San Jose Sharks welcome Safeway as the team's official grocery partner,” said John Tortora, chief operating officer of the San Jose Sharks. “Safeway has been one of our key corporate partners over the few seasons and we are proud to continue the relationship. We also are excited to join Safeway in launching the US$1 million Score and Win promotion, another great reason for our fans to shop at Safeway.”

The Sharks qualified for the season-ending NHL play-offs in 2016/17 but were eliminated in the first round by the Edmonton Oilers. They start the new season at home to the Philadelphia Flyers on 4th October.
