Dutch broadcaster RTL will continue to televise action from the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) through 2019.
The new deal, struck with PDC promoter Matchroom Sport, ensures that RTL will retain its exclusive right to air the Premier League and the World Darts Championship in the Netherlands.
The financial details of the agreement were not released.
With four Dutch players ranked inside the world’s top 15 - including the top-ranked player and new world champion, Michael Van Gerwen - the sport has become increasingly popular in the Netherlands in recent years. As such, RTL faced increased competition to secure the broadcast rights. However, RTL’s previous commitment to darts, as well as its access to digital platforms, were cited as major reasons for the PDC remaining with the network.
Van Gerwen started 2017 by winning his second PDC World Darts Championship. The 27-year-old completed a 7-3 victory over Gary Anderson in the tournament’s final on 2nd January.
