RIA Novosti has become the official host national news agency of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games.
The Russian media company, which in September 2011 was named the news agency of choice for the Sochi Olympics, will enjoy priority access to events and receive accreditation directly from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Its coverage, photography and other materials from the Games will be made available to national and international media through its web resources, including the R-Sport agency.
IPC communications and media director Craig Spence said the organisation was "delighted" to appoint RIA Novosti, adding: "The co-operation with RIA Novosti will help us at the IPC to build the excitement about the Paralympic Games from now on and increase the awareness of the Paralympic athletes and the Paralympic movement in Russia. This is key for a successful staging of the Games next year."
"Covering Paralympic events has always been a priority for RIA Novosti, and the IPC’s decision is a great honour for us," said Maxim Filimonov, the head of the RIA Novosti Olympic team. "The agency plans to use over 50 journalists and photojournalists, who will focus mainly on the Russian athletes."
The Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games will run from 7th to 16th March next year.
