Israeli soccer team Maccabi Tel Aviv have reportedly terminated their kit supply deal with global firm Adidas, instead opting to create their own sportswear manufacturing brand.
The 21-time champions of Israel will design and produce all matchday and training kit in-house under the working name ‘Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Brand’, according to sportsmarketing.pl.
The club will be supported by manufacturing specialists, and will create replica kit and memorabilia for fans.
According to Mitch Goldhar, the Maccabi Tel Aviv owner, the greater flexibility and authenticity of creating their own kit is one of the reasons for the split from Adidas.
The team currently sit second in the Israeli Premier League, ten points off runaway leaders Hapoel Be’er Sheva. Despite being the league’s most decorated side, Maccabi failed to lift any silverware in 2015/16, and are already facing an uphill challenge to displace Hapoel Be’er Sheva at the top of the table.
