Real Madrid announce games deal with Generamobile
Spanish league champions Real Madrid and Generamobile have reached an agreement that will see the latter develop an annual series of official mobile phone games for the club. The series of games will be available on any mobile network worldwide, and will be distributed globally.
The first version of the game, Real Madrid Soccer 2009, was released this month to critical acclaim. The club, already the richest in the world with revenues of US$470 million last year, hopes to capitalise on a rapidly emerging market.
Games are becoming increasingly profitable for mobile phone companies. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive, announced this month that the corporation was, "working with partners across the industry to deliver a new generation of Windows phones." Real Madrid's series of games will be available through Windows Marketplace, the company's new iTunes-style service for mobile phone games, tools and programmes.
The club has a series of deals with mobile phone companies worldwide, including in China, India and Japan, to distribute the games as well as other content.
